World Oral Health Day March 20th 2017 in Tanzania
World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is celebrated every year on 20 March. It is an international day to celebrate the benefits of a healthy mouth and to promote worldwide awareness of the issues around oral health and the importance of oral hygiene to looking after everyone old and young. Tanzania commemorates WOHD by having a week long activities on oral health promotion focusing on children and children with special needs, where free check-up and treatment is provided. On 20th March the celebrations, general public are given access for free check-up and advice and oral health education.
Tanzania Dental Association usually commemorate WOHD on her own style. There are various activities done a week prior 20th March, including;
- Awareness walk
- Free dental check-up and treatment to children with special needs and other primary school children
- Oral health awareness sessions on various media such as radio and TV programs
- Oral health awareness session on commemoration day to general public and free dental check-up
- Engaging government and non governmental organisations on commemoration of WOHD by supporting TDA activities
